Event description

Description

Are you interested in becoming a school business manager?

Come along to one of our informal events for people considering working as SBMs and find out what the role entails. Experienced school business management staff will give a short talk outlining what a typical day/week/month looks like for them and then explain why school business leadership roles are some of the best jobs in public service.

These events run on a small group basis with no more than 5 people in any one session so you will get plenty of time to ask questions.

If you don't work in a school, getting experience and understanding of the SBM role to be able to apply can be a real hurdle. Start a conversation with us about how training, voluntary work in schools and wider experience could help you on the path to a new career.

FAQs

What is the dress code for this event?

Smart casual or business dress are fine. Just no jeans for flip flops - this is a working school with standards to maintain!

What if I can't make it on the day?

Just give us a ring on 0121 464 1881 to let us know. We promise not to be grumpy!

I don't work in a school at the moment, can I still come?

Yes! We'd love to talk to you about a possible career change for you.

Are there minimum academic requirements for being an SBM?

The SBL (school business leadership) profession is becoming increasingly complex. You don't need a degree to start in the profession, indeed many people started with just a set of good GCSE results, BUT the senior posts in the profession operate at Degree Level. If you don't have a degree, there are ways of training on the job via the Modern Apprenticeship scheme which are funded by employers and the government.

Where can I find out more about the school business leadership profession?

Visit the Institute of School Business Leadership - the professional body which supports the profession - at www.isbl.org.uk
