SOAS Concert Series: Kadialy Kouyaté

The Modern Griot - London’s Kora Master

Kadialy Kouyaté is a musician and songwriter inspired by the West African Griot repertoire. His Sound Archive ensemble features an outstanding group of London musicians who play original music inspired by the Mandinka griot tradition. Born into a great line of Kouyaté griots (hereditary musicians) in Southern Senegal, Kadialy’s mesmerising kora (West African 'calibash harp') playing and singing style has been appreciated throughout the world. Since his arrival in the UK, he has played a significant part in enriching London’s global music scene with his unique griot legacy. He has also left an indelible mark at SOAS, having been teaching the kora here for the last decade.

Recommended donation: £3.

Please note that venue capacity is limited and making this donation online guarantees that you will be allocated a seat for the concert. Remaining seats on the night will be allocated on a first come first served basis.
