About this event
This is a 2 day training course, both days must be attended, the 2nd day will be on Tuesday 12th July.
This workshop aims to give an overview of the areas of social communication, and how to identify a child’s needs. It introduces verbal and visual communication strategies and direct interventions that can be used to support children with social communication needs. It briefly introduces Blank Levels of language and key strategies to support children to understand higher level, more abstract language.
Aims:
• Develop an understanding of social communication needs
• Understand typical development of social communication
• Be aware of the impact of Social Communication Difficulties (SCD)
• Be aware of key strategies to aid understanding of language
• Identify practical ideas and strategies to support children with SCD
• Next steps and when / how to access support from Speech and Language Therapy
Ideal for:
Teachers and education support staff in Foundation stage, Key Stage 1, and Key Stage 2 settings who support children with social communication needs.
