Are you a Hackney resident or organisation setting up a social enterprise or looking to re-launch a current social business?

Hackney Co-operative Developments CIC's Pioneering Social Enterprise in Hackney programme is pleased to present this 7-week series of one-day workshops to help you with the main steps.

Places are heavily discounted, however participants are expected to commit to attend the majority of workshops in the series and it is essential that you have a Hackney-based social enterprise project (pre-start or other) to use a case study during the course.

Day 1: Social Enterprise & Business - Wednesday 15th November

Introduction to the course. Understanding social enterprises, community businesses and co-operatives. Developing business and social missions. Feasibility assessment. start up process.

Day 2: Legal structures and governance
 - Wednesday 22nd November

Mapping stakeholders. Enterprise design. Legal formats, governance and participation issues.

Day 3: Marketing
 - Wednesday 29th November

Principles of marketing theory and social enterprise marketing messages. Product descriptions, customer profiles and market research plans. Client management. Customer care.

Day 4: Organisation
 - Wednesday 6th December

Quality assurance and Quality systems. Health & safety. Human resource development. Management and employment.

Day 5: Social Product and Social Auditing - Wednesday 13th December

Social product, Social output, Social impact measurement, reporting and auditing. SROI (Social return on investment). Environmental policy.


Day 6: Finance
 - Wednesday 20th December

Keeping accounts. Generating financial information from accounts. Business performance indicators. Investment acquisition for Social Enterprises. Financial management and minimising risk. Financial projections.

Day 7: Business Planning
 - Wednesday 10th January

Business Strategy and Planning – theory and interactive workshops.

Training Delivered by Co-operative Assistance Network

CAN has assembled a team of skilled specialists and resources to provide specialist development services and training to co-operatives and community enterprises through business advice, training design and delivery, group facilitation, feasibility studies, development planning support and accessing appropriate funding for the social economy.

About Hackney Co-operative Developments CIC

Hackney Co-operative Developments CIC, itself a social enterprise, has engaged in Community Economic Development projects in Hackney for over 30 years and in particular the support and development of new co-operatives and social enterprises through the Pioneering Social Enterprise programme. Aside from social enterprise development, HCD helps over 80 local businesses, community organisations, cultural institutions and shops remain in Dalston through its role as a supportive provider of affordable workspace; provides packages of free training and support for Hackney residents who are furthest from employment; and manages a diary of community and cultural activities in Gillett Square.

Hackney Co-operative Developments were honoured at the Mayor of Hackney Business Awards early this year when they were presented with the Hackney Business Charter Award for Best Overall Contribution to the Borough.
