Description

BACKGROUND

Social Investment means many different things to many people, and there is still quite a bit of misunderstanding across the youth sector of what this actually refers to.

One important element to social investment is 'loan finance', from which a few youth organisations have already benefitted. There is a clear opportunity that could open many new doors for youth services, but in a complex marketplace how could this work in practice, how would it be sustainable, and do youth services want to access it?

UK Youth have been funded by The Access Foundation to explore the opportunity of social investment (more specifically loan finance) within the youth sector, with the key aim of supporting social entrepreneurial activity to develop sustainable income streams.

As part of this research we are carrying out roundtable discussions to better understand any knowledge and skills gaps, explore the potential for a fund (which would most probably have a grant element attached), and the benefit that it may bring to the sector.

This roundtable will be an informative process, in which you will find out more about social investment, hear some case studies, and better understand the risks and opportunities it could bring.
