Social Justice; Wellbeing; Identity - taking forward a cross sector approach

Attendance is open to all UK ISME members and to MEC members (limited to 100 attendees).

Aim of the day:

The aim is to take the ISME World Conference themes of Social Justice, Well-being and Identity and to examine them through the various sector lenses – aiming to establish what we can learn from each other (so not re-inventing the wheel); where there are differences and similarities in perception and practice; how we can influence others and how we can celebrate good practice.

11.00 Plenary session: Perspectives

  • Gary Spruce – Co-editor of The Oxford Handbook of Social Justice in Music Education
  • Ray Macdonald – Joint author of ‘Musical Identities’ in the Oxford Handbook of Music Psychology
  • Sue Hallam – Researcher in Music and Well-being across the age span

12.30 Lunch and networking

(13.00 - 13.15 MEC Special Meeting - Constitution)

13.15 Break out groups, each to explore:

  • Sharing Similarities – sharing perspectives on the topics and find points of agreement
  • Exploring Differences – either different usages of the same words or different emphases on outcomes/purpose etc.
  • Next steps (Case studies/examples to celebrate and share)
