As social media becomes more and more popular, it provides a unique opportunity to reach your audience. Whether your charity wants to raise funds, spread awareness or recruit volunteers, your audience is on social media and so you should be too. With campaigns such as the ice bucket challenge funding ground-breaking research, there is now real evidence that online successes can make a huge difference to charities.
But where do you start? There are so many platforms available and such a vast array of new terminology that it can sometimes seem a little overwhelming. We understand the budget and resource restraints of the charity sector, so we want to help you get the most from social media with this crash course for beginners.

Choose your platforms: learn about a variety of popular platforms including Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Instagram, and which find out how to decide which ones you should be active on
Start using your chosen platforms: find out how to connect with your audiences, familiarise yourself with the basics and discover how to measure your efforts against your goals
Create engaging content: take a look some successful campaigns and get inspired with tips and tools
This course is ideal for beginners who need to start with the basics. If you haven’t been using social media as part of your job for very long or want to move your charity towards digital marketing then this is the course for you.

Andrew’s career spans over 15 years. After working as a chatroom moderator on Pop Idol and Friends Reunited, Andrew served as producer for the digital station BBC Radio 1Xtra. He founded his consultancy, The Worst Kept Secret, in 2009 where his visionary ‘Social Media Fundamentals’ program was the UK’s first ever social media course, designed to improve numeracy and literacy in borderline G.C.S.E. English students. Andrew also sits on the Ofcom Advisory committee for England where he ensures a strong focus on innovation, technology, young people and small businesses.
Andrew counts many of the UK’s most prominent corporate names among his clients. His unique Traffic/Action/Nurture (“TAN”) strategy has led to engagements with such clients as Barnados, National Children’s Bureau, KPMG, Saatchi & Saatchi, Kiss FM, o2 and London Fire Brigade. He also runs a popular blog called thinkingoutsidetheblog.com where he gives tips and tricks on how to grow an online business.
