With a projected user base of nearly 3 billion in 2019, one of the most promising methods of marketing, which many small businesses are incorporating into their strategies, is social media. It is perfect for attracting and engaging users from multiple platforms and interests and converting them into customers.

RIBA Oxfordshire will host a half day seminar on social media covering a wide range of topics that will help you to build your brand, increase your customer base and connect you with current and new customers.

How can you use social media to expand your business – particularly if you are a new, small creative practice? This half-day seminar, Social Media for Design Professionals will cover:

  • How to use social media to connect with clients – current, and new

  • Building your brand

  • Making new trends in social media work for you

  • In the virtual world, transitioning from big practice to sole practitioner

Speakers:

Zoe Cairns, CEO, ZC Social Media

Zoe Cairns is a highly respected and proficient speaker, trainer and consultant. Specialising in many areas but focusing on social media strategy – a key area that people tend not to cover when they first set out. ZC Social Media works with many companies, brands and Fortune 500 companies on strategy and knowhow in implementing high profile social media campaigns. Zoe has appeared on ITV’s This Morning and BBC News channel talking about the rise and rise of social media in business

Claire Thirlwall, Director, Thirlwall Associates

Claire Thirlwall founded Thirlwall Associates in 1996. Clients include the Environment Agency, the Heritage Lottery Fund, Sustrans and the Vale of White Horse District Council as well as private practices and developers. As Director of Thirlwall Associates, Claire has been involved in the design, planning and implementation of a wide range of landscape projects for almost 20 years. She has worked as an Expert Adviser to the Heritage Lottery Fund since 2005 and is a committee member for Constructing Excellence Berkshire.

Claire says: “Heritage inspired me almost 20 years ago whilst in Manhattan working at Walter B. Melvin LLC on the repair of landmark buildings, such as The Dakota and The Frick Collection. I qualified as an architect in 2004, and enjoyed 12 years at EPR Architects as a Project Architect and Associate where I oversaw some truly unique schemes. In 2018 I completed a First Class Honours Degree in Heritage Interior Design – believed to be the first Architect in the UK with this specialist qualification. For the past couple of years I’ve worked as a sole practitioner."

Organisers:

RIBA Oxfordshire represents around 430 Chartered Members in the county. The Branch organises events including building visits and the annual Henley Design Day, a showcase for architects and other design professionals.

Berkshire WAM is an informal group of women who work in the architectural profession and meet regularly in Reading and surrounding areas.
