Description
Social Media for Researchers
Miggie Pickton and Nick Dimmock
Social media are playing an increasingly important role in our everyday lives. We communicate through Facebook and Twitter and we share photographs and videos through Flickr and YouTube. But can these tools be of use in a research context?
This session will introduce new ways of using online tools to support the research process: for example in communicating and collaborating with fellow researchers; keeping up to date with the research activity of others; and disseminating our own research to a wider audience. We will look at professional networking tools (e.g. LinkedIn; Academia.edu; ResearchGate; Mendeley), blogs (e.g. Blogger; WordPress) and microblogs (e.g. Twitter) and a range of other tools. In each case the focus will be on their application to research and the research process.
This workshop is open to any student currently registered on a research degree programme at the University of Northampton. Further information is available from Simone Apel (simone.apel@northampton.ac.uk; 01604 893418).
