Description

By 2019, it’s estimated that there will be around 2.77 billion social media users around the globe.

Used responsibly it can raise your profile, help keep in touch with friends and win new business but in the wrong hands it’s the weapon of choice for cyber bullies and fraudsters.

BusinessCloud’s latest breakfast event –‘Social media – friend or foe’ – will hear from a string of people who will be sharing their good and bad social media experiences.

They include entrepreneur Rebecca Jane, who received 35,000 direct tweets in just 24 hours after appearing on Big Brother, but refuses to let the ‘trolls’ win by quitting social media. The 33-year-old founded The Lady Detective Agency in 2009 and has gone on to become a best-selling author and a regular guest on TV shows including This Morning and Loose Women.

Jane admits her appearance on Big Brother 2017 saw the attention she received reach a whole new level, when she was “called all the names under the sun for the way that I looked.”

She’ll be joined at next month’s event by a number of speakers including Lee McAteer, co-founder of £4.1m turnover business Invasion Camp Group. He grew all his brands through social media but has received nasty messages on social media – including on Christmas Day.

Other confirmed speakers include:

Becky Boyd, Social Media Geek
Joseph Kelly, digital strategist at Prodo
Alex McCann, owner of Altrincham HQ
Dominic McGregor, Chief Operating Officer, Social Chain
Tanya Hemphill, partner, Ti22 Digital
