Introduction:

This 7 session programme has been developed by Jersey Retail as a result of direct feedback from businesses in the sector. The programme will give delegates the skills to design outstanding social media content to tell the story of their business and engage with different social media channels to maximise their reach. The programme has already delivered excellent results in local retail businesses. The programme is being run by The Collective (https://thecollective.je/about) and places are 75% subsidised by the Government of Jersey.

Target audience:

Any individual who is (or will be) responsible for posting on social media or web/blog content. Delegates can be from a broad range of roles within the retail sector including Marketing, Social media manager, Owner, Manager, Director, or a member of the sales team with responsibility for posting on social media. In order to gain a subsidised place, delegates must have Entitled or Entitled for work status*.

Course format and dates:

the programme begins with a one hour 1:1 consultation with Chris Morris to assess the current state of your organisations social media. This 1:1 will be at a time and date that suits you and details of how to book this will be provided once you have booked your course place.

Following the 1:1, there will be 6 sessions each lasting 1.5 hours with a hands on practical session in the middle to implement some of the strategies in a supported environment. Each session leads on to the next and delegates must attend all sessions. The first 3 sessions focus on techniques and skills to develop outstanding content for your social media posts as this is essential before embarking upon any marketing campaign. The next 3 sessions focus on social media marketing, strategy, tactics and delivery. The content of each session is outlined below:

Creating the content for your social media posts

Session 1: Getting started (Wednesday 16 October 9.30am to 11am)

  • Introduction to writing the content for your social media posts
  • The importance of good content for social media posts
  • Storytelling techniques

Session 2: Planning (Monday 21 October 9.30am to 11am)

  • Planning what to post on your social media
  • Where do you start when developing content?
  • Different types of content

Session 3: Strategy (Wednesday 23 October 9.30am to 11am)

  • Creating your first social media content together with us
  • Content strategy
  • Brand audit

Wednesday 6 November - hands on practical session (9am to 1pm)

  • Implement some of the strategies directly on yo your business social media platforms
  • Ask Chris and his team questions as you do it to maximise the impact

Social media marketing:

Session 4: Introduction (Monday 11 November 9.30am to 11am)

  • Social media strategy & overview
  • Take stock - Where are you now? Your brand? What does it say socially?
  • What do others say? How are they saying it? Be digital voyeurs!
  • Objectives – what do you want to achieve? Set goals for your business. Measure your progress

Session 5: Tactics & Strategy (Wednesday 13 November 9.30am to 11am)

  • Tactics – How, when
  • Content calendars & curation
  • Advertising and boosting & scheduling
  • Good looking pages/best practice

Session 6: Delivery (Monday 18 November 9.30am to 11am)

  • How to present your business on multiple social media platforms
  • The practical process of setting up your page/account
  • Tools to help you be creative - get the best looking page yourself
  • Content calendars

Additional details

  • Please arrive at the venue 5-10 minutes before the start time of each session
  • When you enter the Digital Jersey Hub, the skills zone is directly ahead of you (clearly signed)
  • Tea, coffee and water will be provided
  • There is no parking available on site, so delegates who are travelling by car should allow themselves sufficient time to locate adequate public parking (Green Street car park is close by)
