We cordially invite you to join us at the next Social Pedagogy Development Network event hosted by West Kent College. At this SPDN event we will explore the following theme from a social pedagogical perspective: nurturing well-being.
From averting adversity, to supporting recovery from trauma, and increasing happiness, well-being plays a central role in social pedagogy across the spectrum. As a holistic and relationship-centred approach, social pedagogy aims to create a learning environment that enhances physical, emotional, social, mental and spiritual well-being. This relies on our ability to develop authentic relationships with the people we’re supporting – relationships in which we engage with head, heart and hands. We require high levels of self-awareness, self-reflection and self-care to do this effectively and to ensure that our presence and support benefits the other.
With this SPDN event we want to explore how we can nurture well-being both in others and, equally importantly, in ourselves. Within social pedagogy, well-being also has wider relevance: we are not only concerned with well-being at an individual but also at a community and societal level, aiming to contribute to a society in which every person feels supported, included and able to flourish.
We hope that participants will leave both with new ideas of how social pedagogy can enhance their practice and how they can nurture both their own and other people’s sense of well-being.
Who can come? Anybody working with children, young people, families or other adult groups in a care or educational setting is welcome to join us. We generally have a broad mix of practitioners, senior managers, policy-makers, students, researchers and academics with a variety of backgrounds participating in the SPDN. We also want the SPDN to be a forum where all participants can further extend their understanding of social pedagogy, no matter what prior knowledge of social pedagogy they might have. We believe the SPDN thrives on the passion and views that each participant has to offer and which make every SPDN event a creative, vibrant hub for dialogue, learning and relationship-building.
Please book your free place here to ensure you will receive all relevant information. To keep the SPDN a free and diverse event we can only offer up to 6 places per organisation. Thank you for your understanding.
