The role of Social Prescribers in supporting eating disorder recovery
Dr Simpson will explain how Social Prescribing Link Workers within Primary Care Networks (PCNs), are well placed to provide early, person-centred support to individuals with eating disorders. Patients frequently present in primary care with symptoms other than those obviously related to eating concerns. We will discuss the challenges of identifying those with an eating disorder, give insight into these complex conditions and why traditional clinical interventions alone are often less effective. Dr Simpson will outline the steps Social Prescribers can take to create opportunities for positive engagement and long term change, such as phrases and language that is more likely to be effective when working with someone presenting with probably eating disorder behaviour.
