Event description
Join us in conversation and planning around how we can advance social rights across the North East.

About this Event

Talk.Act.Change.

Access to housing, education, social security, health and food are globally recognised as human rights. The UK has ratified several international treaties that say so. Despite this, poverty and destitution are on the rise, wages stagnate and housing situations worsen. The North East is often hit the hardest by damaging government policies and growing levels of inequality.

International human rights law provides useful and innovative discourses and tools for those working on issues as diverse as welfare, poverty, child rights, non-discrimination, mental health or workers’ rights.

The event will focus on:

LISTENING to the experiences of those working on the ground and exploring the issues around economic and social rights in the North East. We will hear from Tracey Herrington at Thrive Teeside about their work engaging local and national politicians with the socio-economic duty. Jennifer Laws will also share Asylum Matters' experience of working on a large collaborative campaign - Lift The Ban.

NETWORKING to make new connections and gain inspiration from fantastic work happening across the region.

CREATING ideas and plans for how to move forward and instigate the change we want to see together.

Refreshments will be provided.

The Acklam Green Centre has full disabled access. The centre is easily accessed by bus (with stops just outside) and has free on-site parking available, although this is limited.
