Social work by and for all: a vision for the future

About this Event

Join Professor Peter Beresford OBE as he examines a complex time in social work’s history and seeks to offer a realistic route map for the future.

Event description

In this keynote, Professor Peter Beresford OBE will consider how social work has always had commitments to connect the personal with the social, social justice with social protection.

Uniquely among personal services it has sought to see the person in their wider context and improve the relation between the two.

At a complex time in social work’s history, how might it seek to achieve these principles for the coming years of the twenty first century?

This session will seek to offer a realistic route map which highlights key current concerns with inclusion and anti-discrimination; universalism and residualism, participation and coproduction and environmentalism and sustainability.

He will draw particularly on the ambitions and experiential knowledge of people with lived experience of social work.
