Friends Who Are Going
Event description

Description

Success at degree level often depends not just on hard work and application, but an ability to navigate higher education (HE). HE Students need to learn how to write 'academically', read LARGE amounts in their own time, manage a number of deadlines and access specific support services.

If you have friends or family who have been to (or are at) University, they can often help you develop these skills, but many students are the first in their family to attend University, or do not have access to such 'insider knowledge'.

In response, the social work team will offer a free bespoke 'Secrets of success in higher education' session every semester. The sessions will be run by Dr Gill Buck and Dr Val Gant, both of whom were the first in their families to attend Univeristy. They will share key knowledge about HE and offer a support and discussion forum to help you make links with other students across the year groups.

Sessions are open to students at all levels, but places are limited, so will be allocated on a first come, first served basis. Where demand is high, additional sessions will be organised.
