About this event

Speakers include:

  • Naima Omar, author of The Revolutionary Ideas of Angela Davis

The British government is ramping up the war on refugees, with the decision to deport people to Rwanda the latest announcement. But this has not come out of nowhere - it is an intensification of a long term process of demonisation, criminalisation and othering of migrants and refugees. And this is a wider pattern across Europe and the world.

It is now the norm for people fleeing poverty and war to be met by border fences and forces trying to keep them out. The scapegoating of migrants and refugees has become commonplace in mainstream politics, not just the language of the forces of the far right.

It is crucial to build a movement in solidarity with migrants and refugees. But we also have to go further and ask why does the system we live in need borders? Why is that businesses and businessmen are able to move between countries with ease, but people are locked out?

Join this event to discuss why borders are central to capitalism, and how we can build a world without them.
