This year the annual SMA Student Colloquium will be held in the capital of Europe, Brussels, in the auditorium of the Cinquantenaire Museum (Royal Museums of Art and History) between Nov. 3rd-5th.
We are very pleased to announce 26 podium presentations, within an international and diverse context. Topics that will be covered include Viking Age Iceland, runic messages in Norway, a 16th-century shipwreck, the formation of a medieval town in China, Arabic cartography, Anglo-Saxon society, and many more!
Our keynote speaker is Dr Anton Ervynck (Flemish Heritage Agency), and our local host, Prof. Dr Dries Tys (Free University of Brussels), will guide us throug archaeological Brussels on Wednesday evening Nov. 2nd.
Optional (free when registered) activities are an archaeological tour by Raakvlak (Intermunicipal Service for Archaeology) in Bruges, an excursion to the medieval fishing village 'Walraversijde' (both on Saturday Nov. 5th), and a Belgian beer tasting reception at the Free University of Brussels. A (paid) conference dinner will be organised in restaurant 'Volle Gas' on Friday evening - serving authentic cuisine in a true Belgian setting.
