About the event:
Join us for a two-day retreat exploring the ‘Society’ strand of Satish Kumar’s Soil, Soul, Society that we are exploring in this year’s education programme – a call to live in harmony with others, rooted in compassion, cooperation, and shared responsibility. As Braziers Park marks its 75th year as an intentional community, we’ll be looking at some of our history and reflecting on what it means to build and sustain community across generations.
An invitation to become part of a living tradition of radical social experiment, and to imagine what ‘society’ means to you.

The final dimension of Kumar’s trilogy, Society, calls for compassionate action in the world – a commitment to building inclusive, cooperative communities rooted in ecological justice and human dignity. Braziers Park has long served as a microcosm for such experiments in living. As a residential community, research centre, and home for alternative education, we offer spaces where individuals can question dominant paradigms, explore new social models, and co-create futures based on mutual care and sustainability.
Society relates to social relationships. Care of the Soil and Soul needsto be extended to include care for society. Social justice, equality, human dignity leading to the wellbeing of all. “We are already highly
obliged to society. We were totally defenceless and weak when we were born. It is society that looked after us and brought us up, we should therefore serve it.” Architecture, literature, poetry, music, paintings, philosophy, science and technology. And now is our turn to contribute to that culture and civilisation to ensure that no child in our human family goes without food, no sick person is left unattended, no country or community is afflicted by war, exploitation and torture.
