Sociology New Directions Conference 2017
Thu, 20 Apr 2017, 08:15 – Fri, 21 Apr 2017, 17:45 BST
The annual New Directions Conference is the flagship event of the Sociology Department. It is an opportunity to engage in dialogue about emerging themes and issues in the discipline, to discover what research is being done in the department, and to explore new ideas with fellow students and staff. This year’s conference (20-21 April 2017) will include presentations from MRes, first-year PhD students, and advanced PhD students about their work in progress. The programme also features presentations by recent graduates of the PG programme and thematic panels composed of PG students, a recent graduate of the UG programme, and staff members. Registration for the conference is free, and if you plan to attend on either day, please select the CONFERENCE ticket (which also includes registration for the keynote speaker).
A provisional programme for the conference can be downloaded here. All events will take place in 50 George Square except where noted otherwise.
Professor Ken Plummer will be the keynote speaker. The keynote address will be on Thursday, 20th of April at 16:30 in Lecture Theatre G.03 in 50 George Square and registration is free. If you only wish to attend only this event, please select the KEYNOTE SPEAKER ticket.
The Department of Sociology will also host a Conference Dinner at Spoon on Thursday, 20th of April. All the members of the department, as well as the speakers, are welcome to join in. For organisational purposes, we need to know in advance how many will attend the dinner. Therefore, if you plan to attend both the conference and the dinner, please get a CONFERENCE + DINNER ticket and complete this brief survey about the menu. The conference dinner tickets will be available until TUESDAY the 18th of APRIL. We appreciate your understanding.
If you have any questions, please contact the New Directions Committee at firstname.lastname@example.org. We look forward to seeing you there!
