This is a drop-in event.
Softdriver involves a choreography and promenade piece that will be performed at the Driving Simulator, University of Leeds. The piece involves a duet between dancer and driver, or if you like between dancer and machine (i.e. the driving simulator device). The device itself is a large scale sphere containing a real-size car, which moves in various directions to simulate the movement of real-life driving. The performance will involve a choreographic dialogue between the driver inside the machine (i.e. inside the car, which in turn sits inside the large-scale sphere), and the dancer moving outside the machine. The dialogue will be established through optically mediated movement (video) and mechanised motion.
The performance will be durational and audiences should come in and out as they please over the course of this site-specific performance. The audience is encouraged to walk around the simulator and watch the live on-going performance.
The maximum capacity is 30 people at any time and should there be more than 30, others will have to wait for someone to leave to go inside. We estimate people will experience the performance for 15-20 min.
There are two performances 24 November 6-7pm and 25 November 5-7 pm. Please note there is standing room only.
This event is part of the Being Human festival - the UK’s only national festival of the humanities. As our festival events are free, not everyone who asks for tickets comes to our events. To make sure we have a full house, we allocate more tickets than there are seats. We do our best to get the numbers right, but unfortunately we occasionally have to disappoint people. Admission is on a first-come-first-served basis, so please arrive in good time for the start of the event.
Pictures might be taken at the event and may be used for future marketing purposes by the University of Leeds, its partners and the Being Human Festival. By attending you give your express consent to that use without compensation or credit. If you do not wish to be included in any photographs and would like your pictures removed, please let the local organiser at the event know.
