General Information

Software Carpentry's mission is to help scientists and engineers get more research done in less time and with less pain by teaching them basic skills for scientific computing. This hands-on workshop will cover basic concepts and tools, including using the command-line, building and designing programs in Python, and managing the development of code with version control in Git. Participants will be encouraged to help one another.

For more information on what we teach and why, please see our paper "Best Practices for Scientific Computing".

Who: The course is aimed at postgraduate students and postdoctoral scientists who are familiar with basic programming concepts (like loops and arrays) and would like to learn best practise techniques and tools to develop their software more effectively and productively.

Where: B32/3077, University of Southampton Highfield Campus.

Requirements: Participants must bring a laptop, with prerequisites installed (listed on the course webpage). They are also required to abide by Software Carpentry's Code of Conduct.
