Event description

Serverless Done Right

Let’s explore how to harness the power of on-demand Azure platform services, while retaining all the advantages of continuous integration and deployment. Here’s just a few of the technologies we’re going to investigate:

> Azure DB

> Azure websites

> Functions

> Containers

> Bots

> Machine Learning

Our ‘end of the day’ goal? To demo a reliable and repeatable test and deployment pipeline for one of the above.

What is Software Craftsmanship?

Less frantic than a hackathon, this will be a day spent experimenting with other like-minded .NET developers to collaborate and learn together in real-life scenarios…without the pressure to get ‘something’ delivered.

Unfortunately we can’t guarantee entry to everyone as places are limited to keep the groups small. We will let you know if you’ve been successful via email by 12th October at the latest. You will also receive your schedule by that date.

What do I need to bring on the day?

> A Windows x64 computer with Wi-Fi where you have local administrator rights

> Visual Studio 2017 Community, Professional, or Enterprise with the ASP.NET, Database, and Azure workloads installed (additional specifics will be provided a month before the event)

> A valid, active Azure subscription where you are an administrator

> A Microsoft Account (aka a Live ID/Xbox ID)

What will happen on the day?

Upon arrival (after the obligatory cup of tea) you will choose the technology that you are interested in. We will then split everyone off into smaller teams to consider an already developed solution in your chosen technology space. This solution will require a small change to be made to it. Your challenge is to work with your team mates to build a continuous deployment pipeline and demo the required change being rolled out.

Lunch and refreshments will be provided and not to forget the well-deserved drink at the end of the day!

Who are Computershare?

We’re a global financial services company built on technology and innovation. We’re opening up this in-house event to the wider developer community to help our Edinburgh team make connections, to further our knowledge and to gain a fresh perspective.

Join our .NET MeetUp group :)

How do I apply?

You can apply to be considered for the event by clicking ‘register’ and filling out the registration form.

If I register, am I guaranteed entry?

We're afraid only a limited set of teams will be able to participate on the day. Once you have registered, you will receive a personal email from us by Friday 12 October at the latest, where we'll confirm your participation. You'll also receive a detailed schedule with this confirmation.

Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?

Over 18's only, no ID required.

What are my transport/parking options for getting to and from the event?

See map below and we'll give you all the travel info you need closer to the event date.

Any questions?

For technical questions, please contact Roger Fyfe. For any other questions, please contact Luke Morrow or Laura Bacon.

Psst - we're also hosting a .NET Conf watch party at our St Andrew Square offices on Thursday 13 September 2018. Drinks and pizza are on us - RSVP to watch the livestream of the Day 2 sessions.
