Solar Challenge visit to The Shuttleworth Collection
Friday 18th November 2016
11:00 - 16:00
Shuttleworth Collection, Warden Aerodrome, Old Warden, Bedfordshire, SG18 9EP
This is a Fellow-run event, where attendees will have the opportunity to look around the Shuttleworth Collection and Swiss Gardens, whilst supporting the Solar Challenge - a project run by RSA Fellow Sam Rakusen and supported by the RSA East of England team. Tickets cost £20.00 and include entrance to the Collection and Gardens, plus a Buffet Lunch.
The Shuttleworth Collection is an aeronautical and automotive museum located at the Old Warden Aerodrome, Old Warden in Bedfordshire, SG18 9EP England. It is one of the most prestigious in the world due to the variety of old and well-preserved aircraft. The Swiss Garden also on site is also a must for visitors and was created between 1824 and 1832. It was the project of a wealthy young gentleman, the 3rd Baron of Old Warden Lord Ongley, whose family had bought the estate in the 1690s.
No trip to the Collection is complete without a visit to the Engineering Workshop. Here you’ll find engineers and volunteers working to restore the Collection’s aircraft and to keep them in an airworthy condition.
Many of the teams from schools, colleges, universities, and engineering companies taking part in the Solar Challenge will also be on hand to demonstrate their engineering skills.
The day will start at 11.00am with a welcome by Alan Lazell FRSA from the Challenge’s organising committee. You will hear about the development of solar flight by university experts or alternatively you can have a relaxing morning visiting the museum.
At 12.30 a buffet lunch will be served, when you can talk with the teams of graduates and school pupils on their Solar Challenge projects. In the afternoon there willl be a visit to the Swiss Garden, Shuttleworth House, and Gift Shop. There is also a coffee shop where you can purchase refreshments.
Book now as numbers are limited.
