About this event

Solar Cycle 25 is the current cycle of the Sun's magnetic activity, and it began in December 2019. It is the 25th cycle since 1755, when detailed recording of sunspot activity began. The cycle is expected to reach its maximum (solar maximum) in 2024-2026, with a peak in sunspot activity. While initially predicted to be relatively weak, Solar Cycle 25 has already shown greater activity than initially expected.

=============================================================

Andy is a fifth-generation coal miner from Wakefield West Yorkshire, educated as a Mining Surveyor and as a Chartered Mining Engineer and was a colliery manager in Doncaster and Scotland in the 1990’s.

He became interested in Astronomy from an early age due to having a bedroom with no roof and later started with binocular observing until he got his first serious telescope in 2004. He became a member of MSAS in 2006 and everything went downhill from there.

He started imaging in 2009 and made the front cover of the BAA year book for 2011. He has had articles published in Astronomy Now and the BAA journal together with about 40 articles in electronic magazines. He was the first guest in the Let’s Talk Astronomy video series in 2011 shortly before he moved to southern Spain. He is proficient in outreach activities in English and Spanish and had his first article in Spanish published in November 2013 and recently has just had his first book accepted for publication in English and Spanish languages.
