We are happy to welcome Daisy Chapman back to The Art House!
Eight years since going it alone, Daisy has proved herself a talented and shrewd songwriter in high demand. Two albums have been recorded by renowned producer Ali Chant at Toybox Studios (PJ Harvey, Gruff Rhys, Giant Sand, Seasick Steve) including her latest release, “Shameless Winter”.
“Watch this woman, she’ll go far.” – BBC Introducing
“…a great singer-songwriter…well worth checking out.” / “A great album. Really lovely.” – Johnny Coppin, BBC Radio Gloucestershire
Daisy’s powerful vocals have been used by the likes of John Parish, for his film work, as well as a handful of TV session work. Her piano style and versatility was noticed by UK prog rockers Crippled Black Phoenix (Mascot Records), and for two years Daisy travelled as pianist / BVs with the band on tours covering every corner of Europe as well as a short trip to China. Daisy was also chosen as vocalist on their cover of ACDC’s “Let Me Put My Love Into You” which was used in Classic Rock Magazine’s cover CD – a stark departure from her wistful singing style, proving her adaptability in musical genres.
“Instantly captivating." – The Independent
“This is a fantastic album. A great singer and songwriter new to me. Check out her music.” – Adam Wilson, The Quiet Revolution
Daisy has supported well known artists such as Howe Gelb, Karima Francis and Jenn Bostic as well as booked her own tours in the US and Poland, not to mention label tours across Germany, twice a year since 2009. Two studio albums have followed suit, one of which (The Green Eyed, 2009) won an Independent Music Award which then secured her slots at Britain’s leading festivals Glastonbury, Wychwood and 2000 Trees.
“An enchanting work between chanson and classic songwriting.” – Rolling Stone, Germany
We are a city centre venue and parking can be in short supply. If you are driving, please make sure you leave plenty of time to find a space click here for a map of where the nearest parking spaces can be found.
We recommend Kings Park Road car park:
We are about 10 minutes walk from Southampton City Centre train station (head up the hill toward the Guildhall clock tower) and on the route for most city centre buses (the Unilink U1 stops virtually outside.)
Events are generally suitable for adults, young people and older children - children must be accompanied by an adult at all times, however. Young children are also welcome to come along but be aware some poems and songs may contain adult content (although we try to keep these until after children have left!)
Most events are held on our first floor, accessible by a wide staircase with a sturdy banner. Comformatable seating is provided. We regret that, due to space and other constraints, we are generally unable to relocate our events to the ground floor for those who require ground level access - so sorry.
Are there ID requirements or an age limit to enter the event?
Events are open to all ages unless otherwise stated, however please note that our mission is to provide creative activity primarily to adults, therefore most of our programme is aimed at 16 years and over. Performances may include stronger language.
Life drawing classes are open to over 18s only.
