Event description

Description

With recent REF announcements pointing the way for impact assessment, this event will kick-off Solent’s impact preparations for REF2021. The objectives are:

  • To provide a broad-based introduction to impact and what’s new in Impact in REF 2021.

  • To identify a pool of impact case studies to take forward for REF 2021.

The event will be facilitated by Dr. Stephen Kemp, who is an independent funding and impact consultant, and was Impact Framework Manager at the University of Southampton. Stephen has previously been a chemistry researcher, a Research Councils portfolio manager (managing the funding process) and a university funding manager (helping academic staff navigate the funding process).

Programme

Impact in REF2021

1pm – 2:15pm

This 45 minute presentation by Dr Stephen Kemp will cover:

  • Introduction to impact

  • How to plan, deliver, articulate and evidence your impact

  • Impact in REF 2021

  • Support available through Research, Innovation and Enterprise at Solent

This session is aimed at researchers, research support staff, heads of subjects and senior management, and will be followed by a 30 minute Q&A.

Workshop: Identifying potential impact case studies
2:15pm – 4pm

This participative workshop will help participants to develop potential REF impact case studies. The case studies will be based on a body of research which has already been undertaken by one or more researchers. Please come prepared with an idea about how your research has made a difference to beneficiaries.

During the session, participants will work through a REF case study template, which will help to collate relevant information to form the basis of prospective impact case studies.

You can find examples of REF2014 case studies here: http://impact.ref.ac.uk/CaseStudies/search1.aspx

Please note: this is an event in two parts! You will need to select the relevant ticket type when you book. Attendees taking part in the workshop will need to provide a brief summary describing the body research they will be developing into a case study format during the session.
