Overview
Please note: There are also face to face programmes running. If you are able to attend face to face, please keep this event clear for those unable to travel, do not have an event in their area, or who are attending around other commitments.
A Solihull Approach group for parents and carers living in Warwickshire.
'Understanding Your Child' is intended for parents and carers who want to know more about sensitive and effective parenting. It aims to develop a framework of thinking about parent/child relationships that can be developed into a lifelong skill. This in turn promotes effective behaviour management.
The programme explores issues such as:
- Tuning into children
- Exploring feelings
- Parenting styles
- Communication and what may be being communicated through behaviour
- Temper tantrums and anger - why they happen and how to support your children to regulate their emotions
- Sleep
- Behavioural difficulties
This is a great opportunity to meet other parents. Age groups covered are from 0-4, 4-11 and 11-18 yrs. Our experienced trainers will adapt the programme to use scenarios appropriate to the different ages of children whose parents/carers attend the group.
This programme aims to promote parent's understanding of behaviour in the context of their child's development. It promotes the relationship between child and parent and acknowledges that parenting can be challenging, therefore one of the main aims and outcomes reported by parents who have attended the programme is that it increases their confidence as a parent and helps them to respond to their children's needs and behaviours in a way that is beneficial to both child and parent.
This group meets on Teams beginning on Friday 16th January 2026. Sessions are held weekly for 10 weeks from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., concluding on 24th March with a break during the February half-term.
Please note that this is an interactive programme. Whilst we will meeting virtually, engagement is still very important. We ask for cameras to be on throughout the sessions.
To ensure that you are joining the most suitable programme for your family's needs, group facilitators will make contact with you on the contact number you provide on the booking form prior to the group commencing.
This programme is free and available only to parents living in Warwickshire or having children in Warwickshire schools/nurseries. If you live in another area, please contact your local early help team to see what they can offer you.
