Event description

Description

We would like to welcome individuals working in schools across Gloucestershire and the South West (Wiltshire, Gloucestershire, Worcestershire, Oxfordshire, Bristol and Somerset) to this free engagement session ran by the School of Education and Humanities, University of Gloucestershire. Places are open to all school staff (Headteacher, Senior Teacher or Early Career).

Schools are full of wicked problems. These are problems where there is no right solution, there are many legitimate explanations, exist in a network of other problems and they are difficult to define.

How we manage these problems is a significant leadership challenge – they take up most of a leaders activity and are fundamental to the success (or failure) of our institutions. Yet, there is little discussion about the day-to-day tasks that a leaders face, how they influence management and how we can problem solve in the most effective, efficient way.

In this free engagement session, Neil Gilbride (Lecturer in Educational Leadership, University of Gloucestershire) will work with you to explore what wicked problems are and how we can go about designing solutions to these problems.

We will discuss

* What exactly is a wicked problem?

* What ways of working can we employ that embraces the full ‘wickedness’ of a problem?

* How can we develop ourselves and our teams to better handle these challenges in the workplace?
