On this night, we pay tribute to the founding fathers of the Somali Studies Dr. Hussein Adam 'Tanzania' and Said Sheikh Samatar. Kayd is proud to bring together some of the leading academics in the field of Somali studies who will speak and reflect on the works of these two luminaries. The panellists include Prof. Ahmed Samatar, Founding Dean of the Institute for Global Citizenship, Macalester College, Minnesota, USA who worked closely with Dr.Tanzania andProf. Abdi Samatar, Professor of Geography at the University of Minnesota, and author of many books including the recently published Africa's First Democrats.They are joined by Dr. Laura Hammond, senior lecturer at SOAS who has been collecting research on conflict and food security, migration, and Diaspora in and from the Horn of Africa since the early 1990s.
