Event description

Description

Catastrophe' is a long narrative poem addressing the forced migration of the Somali people, by Xasan Daahir 'Weedhsame' (a student of the great Gaarriye). The poem, which will be launched in a special, illustrated Poetry in Translation Centre edition, reads like a cry of fury about the ongoing refugee crisis across Europe and this evening is opened by Dr. Martin Orwin who will introduce the poem and the poets. Also, the award-winning British poet and the translator of 'Galiilyo' Daljit will read the poem with Xassan Daahir 'Weedhsam'. This evening will be concluded with music performances by Nimco Yaasiin and Nimco Dagan esteemed contemporary vocalists.
