Walk: Somerset Coast - Day 3: Minehead to Watchet
This is a fantastic opportunity to join walkers on the 80 Miles in Eight Days Challenge for part of their walk.
On day three continue on the King Charles III England Coast Path to Watchet. We begin in Minehead’s old town, passing the harbour and quayside cottages before reaching the Iron Giant’s Hands sculpture where our time on the South West Coast Path ends. From here, the trail shadows the West Somerset Railway with the chance of old steam trains and diesel engines passing as we walk through Dunster and Blue Anchor to reach Watchet.
We continue on The Esplanade of this vibrant seaside town before skirting Minehead Golf Club to reach Dunster with its iconic Beach Huts and relaxed atmosphere. Leaving Dunster we cross Ker Moor to Blue Anchor and the opportunity for an ice cream on the seafront. The next section of our walk sits on top of rock formations and geological faults and the views of the shore below offer an insight into the reasons behind the cliff instability in this area. Passing through woodland and farmland we reach the old port town of Watchet, a thriving historic harbour town with an arts centre, marina and local shops and cafés.
Along the entire Challenge route there are stamping stations for the Somerset & Exmoor Coast Trail Passport with maps, diary pages and spaces to collect stamps on your walk.
Look out for events, offers and promotions at the location of the walk each day, some of our supporters are timing activities to make your trip as enjoyable as possible with special treats such as packed lunches or cream teas available at the start or end of your day’s walking.
Due to the challenge nature for some participants of this walk, we have made the decision not to accept dogs on the walk.
