Celebrating Somerset's community emergency volunteers, with workshops, presentations and equipment demos. Free event with lunch provided
About this event
The last two years have shown us all how important our community emergency volunteers are. Quietly working away, these individuals and groups are helping to keep our Somerset communities safe, no matter what life throws our way.
That's why the Somerset Prepared partnership is returning once again this year for a face-to-face event, where communities can come together to share knowledge, hear inspiring speakers, and participate in hands-on workshops. We can't stop emergencies from happening , but we can do a great deal to plan and prepare for when they occur. As we face issues such as climate change, emergency preparedness is more important than ever.
The event will also host the inaugural 'Somerset Prepared Community Resilience Award', which recognises individuals or groups that have gone above and beyond to help their community to be better able to deal with emergencies. You can find out more and nominate your own community resilience champions on the Somerset Prepared website.
The event will run from 10am - 4pm, with presentations in the morning and workshops in the afternoon. Come along for the whole day or for part of the day - it's free, with a buffet lunch provided.
We are encouraging people to reduce carbon emissions by travelling on public transport or by sharing lifts if possible. The venue is on the route for the 21A/21 bus service that passes through Taunton, North Petherton, Bridgwater, Highbridge and Burnham-on-Sea. If you're heading to the event by car and willing to share a lift, please email egiffard@somerset.gov.uk stating your route and anticipated travel times.
