About this event

Music • World

oin us for an intimate afternoon of music and storytelling, exploring the rich tapestry of South America. Experience songs from Maria’s native Chile, as well as Venezuela, Mexico, Argentina, Cuba, and Brazil, blending fresh rhythms with soulful melodies and deeply resonant, heartbreakingly romantic stories full of emotion, hope, and human connection.

Maria Adriana, originally from Chile and now living in Hove, brings the vibrant sounds of South America to an English-speaking audience and beyond.

Through heartfelt melodies and lively rhythms, this event celebrates the power of music to unite, heal, and inspire. From the soulful folk of Chile to the boleros of Cuba, Brazil's bossanova, Mexico's La Llorona, Venezuela's tonadas from Simón Diaz, and Argentia's tragically romantic zamvas, each song carries a story, a memory, and a message of humanity and expression.

Bring your heart and your curiosity – leave inspired, uplifted, and connected to the shared spirit of South America.

From the first song I felt transported to a place in Chile. Even without understanding the words, the music spoke directly to my emotions.

Your voice is stunning, and with the simple guitar, it created something powerful, heartfelt and pure. I could feel the humour and cheekiness in the storytelling, which made the whole set refreshing and alive. It was more than a performance. It felt inclusive. Some of the Chilean ladies sang along in Spanish, but even without joining in I felt part of it. Folk has a way of drawing you into the journey, making it a shared experience rather than something you just watch. The joy in the room was unmistakable as people got up to dance.

The simplicity of folk is one of its greatest strengths. You do not need much more than a guitar and a good story. This felt like a celebration of that tradition and a reminder that folk is ready for a beautiful revival. The afternoon at The Better Half was beautiful, heartfelt and memorable. I left feeling uplifted and inspired, with the music still resonating in my mind. It is the kind of experience I want to return to again and again.
I saw María perform and was absolutely blown away. Her voice was stunning, her presence captivating, and the whole performance flawless. She made our night truly special. We loved every moment and can’t recommend her enough.
Your voice is very, very, very beautiful. You just turned that from a nice lunch into a really lovely lunch. It made my day, it made me feel so good. Your voice just made it a beautiful lunch. I want to bring my children to listen to you again.
