Description

Yu Su (piano) and Tyler Clarke (tenor) perform a selection of songs from the classical repertoire to celebrate and reflect upon Mother's Day, including music by Fauré, Dvořák, Britten and Strauss. Come and hear the stories behind the music and enjoy an afternoon of beautiful sounds in the wonderful Music Room at Burgh House & Hampstead Museum.

Winner of the 2009 Les Azuriales Opera Trust Prize, Tyler Clarke studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, the Royal College of Music International Opera School, the Georg Solti Accademia di Bel Canto, National Opera Studio and the Wales International Academy of Voice under the tutelage of Dennis O’Neill CBE.

He made his professional debut in 2011 with English National Opera as Liverotto LUCREZIA BORGIA (a production broadcast by Sky Arts) later returning as Count Almaviva THE BARBER OF SEVILLE. In 2014 he debuted at Opéra de Lyon as Brian in the world première of Auzet’s STEVE FIVE returning the following year as Romeo in Blacher’s ROMEO UND JULIA.

Tyler Clarke sings widely in concert, particular highlights have included Damon Acis and Galatea with the Oxford Philomusica, Elijah with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Kurt Masur, Messiah for Raymond Gubbay Ltd, Mozart Requiem with the English Chamber Orchestra at London’s Royal Festival Hall and The Ultimate Gala at the Wales Millennium Centre with Dame Kiri Te Kanawa and Dennis O’Neill CBE.

Recent and forthcoming credits include: Anthony Hope SWEENEY TODD for Nederlandse Reisopera, 3rd Jew SALOME for Oper Leipzig, Ridicule L’AMOUR DES TROIS ORANGES, Dan Buchanan in STREET SCENE for Teatro Real Madrid, Harry LA FANCIULLA DEL WEST for Oper Leipzig, Kudryash KATYA KABANOVA for Scottish Opera (selected performances), Erster Geharnischter DIE ZAUBERFLÖTE for Scottish Opera and Dan Buchanan in STREET SCENE for Teatro Real Madrid and Monte Carlo Opera.


Yu Su
had a musical upbringing from a young age and has performed extensively across the UK and Europe. her musical experiences include concerts at St Martin-in-the-fields, Wigmore Hall and the Sage Gateshead. In addition to performing, Su has curated for the Rimbaud & Verlaine Foundation on their Songs from a Parisian Salon series and she regularly participates in community projects as a pianist; highlights include Voicelab Big Sing events at The Southbank Centre and Inspire Opera Holland Park.

Su has worked as Assistant Music Director for Hampstead Garden Opera, and répétiteur for Opera Holland Park and The Guildhall School of Music. She has also worked as an accompanist for the Wales International Academy of Voice, National Youth Choirs of Great Britain and the Royal Academy of Music. As a Samling artist, Su has had the privilege to work closely with Sir Thomas Allen, Malcolm Martineau and Stephen King. She has also participated in masterclasses with many great artists including Dennis O’Neill, Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, Dame Anne Murray, Nuccia Focile, Rebecca Evans, Nelly Miricioiu, Della Jones, Joseph Rouleau and Sarah Walker.

Su gained her MA at the Royal Academy of Music, where she specialised in postgraduate Piano Accompaniment under the tutelage of Michael Dussek, Tessa Nicholson and Nicholas Walker. Upon graduation, she was awarded a DipRAM for outstanding final recital and subsequently became répétiteur and accompanist at the Wales International Academy of Voice under the directorship of Dennis O’Neill CBE. After completing the répétiteur course at Guildhall School of Music & Drama, Su continued working as an opera coach as part of her Junior Fellowship.
