Event description

Description

The music of migrants, vagabonds, prostitutes and criminals will shape our mid-winter celebration concert. The music of taverns, cafés, streets and backyard alleys. Stories of love, crime, revenge and misery. Songs expressing people’s longing for a better life.

The spinto-soprano Izabella Goldstein will set the tone with songs from the Jewish underworld in pre-World War II Poland.

Izabella will be joined by singers from the Greater Manchester Humanist Choir. Together they will sing songs from countries many miles apart but all expressing the human condition and human longing.

These songs will find resonance in the port city of Liverpool with its own history of migration, trade, slavery and large and deprived multi-ethnic neighbourhoods.

The concert will be followed by a seasonal social gathering, with some surprises.
