Sonic Threads
Overview
Premiere of sound installation inspired by the historic North Wing at St Bartholomew's Hospital. Created in collaboration with patients at Barts, it weaves together 18th century music with spoken word.
Led by singer Joanna Harries and members of Ensemble Augelletti (recorder, violin, cello and theorbo), this new sonic tapestry will bring together past and present to explore the hospital experience.
About Joanna Harries
Praised for her “stylish” singing (Opera Magazine) and the “emotional force” (The Times) of her performances, mezzo-soprano Joanna Harries is a classically trained singer and experienced workshop leader.
She recently finished at the National Opera Studio and made solo debuts with the London Symphony Orchestra at the Barbican, with Opera Rara at the Queen Elizabeth Hall, and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra at Cadogan Hall.
About Ensemble Augelletti
Ensemble Augelletti specialises in creating engaging programmes that tell the everyday stories of people living in the 17th and 18th centuries through baroque chamber music. They are known for compelling performances that demonstrate an ‘equal capacity for elegant pathos and rip-roaring technical dexterity' (The Arts Desk, 2024) and are often praised for ‘a profound understanding of their innovative repertoire’ (Charles Hutch Press, 2024).
