School of Rocks presents: Ultra Cycling!

We’re diving into the wild world of ultra-distance bike racing – a sport that seems totally mad and wildly unattainable… until it’s not. Think of riding your bike over 500km in one go – that’s the short end of an ultra race. It’s tough, it’s raw, and it’s full of that sweet Type Two fun.

But what actually is ultra bike racing? The definition’s a bit loose, but if you imagine riding for over 24 hours and still not being at the finish line, you're on the right track. Every racer has a story – and trust us, none of these races go smoothly. That’s half the beauty of it.

To help you make sense of it all (or maybe just inspire your next ride), we’re bringing in two incredible speakers: Richard Hibbert and Bryn Davies – both local legends. Dicky (from Llangynidr) has recently smashed the HT550 in brutal conditions and took the win at the Wild West Country Way. Bryn (from Neath) has just conquered the gruelling El Piri race in Girona and casually cycled to every fire station in South West Wales. These guys didn’t start as winners – they built their experience through countless miles, tough lessons, and even (in Dicky’s case) riding a tandem across South America.

They’ll be sharing their stories, mishaps, and top bikepacking tips for anyone curious about giving it a go.

There’ll also be a raffle on the night with some great prizes, and all proceeds go straight back into supporting School of Rocks and growing the local cycling scene.

It’s a social evening where lycra is optional, the chat is solid, and the vibes are top-tier. There’s a small ticket fee to cover venue hire at The Bike Lock, and anything extra goes straight into the community. Come hang out – we’d love to see you there.
