The Spirit of Surplus is an immersive exhibition and fundraiser event; illustrating the subject of food surplus and demonstrating its potential through our Surplus Kitchen. Through the sale of each ticket, you will also be making a donation to Magic Breakfast, a charity that addresses food poverty for children.
Co-hosted by the ethical sourcing project 'The Institute' and social enterprise 'DayOld' the exhibition is an exploration of the subject. In the inspiring location of the Clapton Tram Depot, it is the ideal setting to engage on the potential surpluses provide.
We will be presenting material from independent research: raising awareness about the causes, effects, and initiatives being implemented. Information has been gathered from the forefront of the field and knowledgeable Surplus Guides from within the industry, will be on hand to bring the exhibition material to life. Attendees will be encouraged to engage with and suggest solutions as part of the exhibition, capturing this on our ideas canvas.
In the heart of the exhibition, the Surplus Kitchen will be providing a range of exciting food, all gathered from surplus sources and prepared by leading and inspired chefs. Each plate will demonstrate the unrealised promise of the ingredients; cod cheek kedgeree with sustainable fish from Soleshare, offcut rare breed bacon from Yorkshire, free-range surplus eggs from Black Acre farm in Somerset, to surplus Squaremile coffee, artisan sourdoughs and seasonal fruit jams! We will also be serving Toast Ale, made from surplus bread to keep the spirit alive!
