About this event

Soul Feeding and Other Experiments

Welcome to Soul Feeding and Other Experiments!

Join me with your art and company, music, poetry, sculptures, & the marvellous.

Soul Feeding and Other Experiments is a a provocation and a gentle invitation for a dialogue with food, light and surreal possibilities.

Featuring a special live musical performance by Lake Montgomery.

We will hold a food (ajeum) ceremony as an offering for soul feeding to open your senses. Sound, taste, touch, smell, and sight will be curated on your terms. Each day of the exhibition will begin with the food ceremony, followed by a tasting experience prepared by me.

The exhibition is organised with support of Rhubaba Art Studio and Gallery during my art residency in 2024-25. It is based on poems, sculptures, and paintings that are the result of my work as an educator and researcher, reflecting on Blackness, anti-Black racism, the Black diaspora, Black love, Afrofuturism, and our surreal dreamworld-makings.

There is no particular commitment to beauty. Opacity and curiosity are inspirations and sources of sacred and care-full encounters with art, full of food, light, and possibilities.

Frequently asked questions

Where is this event taking place?

Johnston Terrace Garden, it is a hidden gem on the stairs that connects the Edinburgh Castle to the Haymarket. It is NOT a public space: access is through a locked wooden gate. Information about the place: https://scottishwildlifetrust.org.uk/reserve/johnston-terrace-garden/

Will food be provided?

No. The exhibition does not offer food. So, it's not a good idea to come expecting to fulfil your hunger for food, but we hope to nurture your soul with art.

Is the venue accessible?

Unfortunately the space is not accessible for wheelchair.
