Event description
Soul Sundays IV is all about REST and you're invited to join us for a gentle morning of practices designed to calm your body & mind.

About this Event

About your morning

Your mini-retreat morning will begin with a Hatha yoga class. We'll move through a sequence of standing and sitting asanas (postures) before settling into a pranayama (breathing) and meditation practice.

You'll then be guided through a self deep-tissue massage practice using tennis balls!

After a short break, Heinke will treat you to a delicious restorative yoga practice enabling you to unwind even further. Restorative yoga postures help us learn to relax and rest fully. Poses are supported with props like bolsters, blocks and blankets; they are passive and held for longer. This helps your body and mind to slowly move from the fight and flight state of your nervous system into the rest and digest mode. Whether you are feeling stressed, weak or fatigued from daily activities, or you simply feel the need to slow down and listen to your breath and body, this wonderful practice is for you. We will finish this class with a deeply relaxing yoga nidra practice, the yogic sleep.

Your morning of nourishment will end with some vegan, gluten free sweet treats and a cup of herbal tea and a chance for a chit chat with your fellow retreaters or perhaps just some contemplative space to sit, write or reflect.

Each guest will receive a complementary goody bag including a restful essential oil, hand blended for you.

About your hosts

Jess North

Jess is a local yoga teacher, offering weekly Hatha classes in Helston and Constantine. She's been practicing yoga for 20 years and teaching for 5. She has taught aromatherapy yoga workshops to groups of 60+ at festivals such as Port Eliot and The Great Estate. She teaches regularly on Horizon Inspired retreats and is the founder and curator of Soul Sundays.

Heinke Thies

Heinke began her yoga journey about 18 years ago in Australia and was not instantly convinced that this path would be hers. With a body tight and tense from surfing all day, it took a bit longer for this love to evolve. Or was it mainly the mind that needed to slowly ease into this focused practice? Back in Germany she then found her teachers in Ashtanga, instructors Dana Schwandt and Annette Hartwig, as well as attending workshops with Dena Kingsberg.

After moving to Cornwall, Heinke practiced with Iyengar teacher Alison Trewhela as well as Anusara-inspired teachers Bridget Woods Kramer and Lucinda Pimlott. She did her teacher training with Keren Cooksey in Falmouth. Heinke then studied yoga for stress management and burnout with Charlotte Watts and Leah Barnett in London. She is currently undertaking further restorative yoga teacher training with Judith Hanson Lasater.

She draws from a variety of different yoga styles and teachers but over time has developed her own slow moving vinyasa/hatha style that always sees the individual student as well as the need for a slower life as her main inspiration. She cares deeply for the little yoga community she has built up in Ponsanooth and Penryn where she teaches and holds regular charity and community events. She truly believes in the transformative healing qualities of the slower yoga styles, especially deeply nourishing restorative yoga.
