About this event

Welcome to the Sound Bath at St David Chapel, Carmarthen. Join us at St. David’s Hospital on August 31st, 2025 at 6:15 PM (Europe/London) for a relaxing and rejuvenating experience. Experience the soothing sounds and vibrations that will help you unwind and find inner peace. Don't miss this opportunity to take a break from your busy schedule and treat yourself to a moment of tranquility. Come as you are and immerse yourself in the calming atmosphere. We look forward to seeing you there!

A sound bath or gong bath meditation is a relaxing, immersive experience where you’re surrounded by soothing sounds and vibrations from instruments like gongs, crystal or Tibetan singing bowls, bells, chimes, or drums. You typically lie down or sit comfortably on a yoga mat or blanket in a calm, dimly lit space, letting the sounds “wash” over you—hence the term “bath.” There’s no water involved; it’s about being enveloped by the tones and vibrations.

In a gong bath, the focus is specifically on gongs, which produce deep, resonant sounds that can feel powerful and grounding. The facilitator plays the instruments in a way that creates a flow of harmonious or rhythmic vibrations. The goal is to help you relax, quiet your mind, and enter a meditative state. Many find it eases stress, clears mental fog, or even feels spiritually uplifting.

Research, like Goldsby et al. (2017), shows sound baths can reduce anxiety, improve mood, lessen physical pain, and boost spiritual well-being. Cai et al. (2025) note benefits like lower stress hormones and better sleep quality. It’s a low-effort way to unwind—no experience needed. Just bring a blanket, wear comfy clothes, and let the sounds do the work. People often leave feeling calm, centered, or refreshed.

Holding a Sound Bath / Gong Bath at St David Chapel, Parc Dewi Sant, Carmarthen is just such a joy. This old chapel and place has such a lovely calming energy. The location is quiet and peaceful making it an ideal spot for Sound Bath or Gong Bath. We love coming here.

Frequently asked questions

What to bring?

Bring a yoga matt or comfortable matt to lie down, a blanket, maybe an eye poillow, relax and soak up the healing sound vibrations from the gong and tubular bells. If you'd prefer to sit, there are the pews as well as a few comfy arm chairs.

What to expect?

During a gong bath, people gather together and settle comfortably on the floor, allowing themselves to unwind in silence as Mark intuitively plays the instruments. He creates a rich tapestry of sounds and vibrations that wash over the group. Rather than actively participating, attendees simply relax

Toilets

There are no toilets within the Chapel so please empty out before laying down for the sound bath :-) You don't want to interrupt your experience. There are toilets just outside in an adjacent building.

Looking after yourself after the Sound Bath

Please ensure you drink plenty of water after the sound bath. The vibrations will have stirred your lymphatic system and you'll need to flush away any released toxins.

Before you drive home

Before you drive home please check in with yourself and ensure that you are safe to drive home. Sometimes a Sound Bath can cause states of euphoria and a spaced out feeling. Please be sure to come back to your body, ground out before driving.
