Event description

Description

Dr Gill Gregory will explore the ways in which words and sounds play in our minds and imaginations. Gill will talk about her work as a writer and the significance of psychoanalytic ideas and words. Her book, The Studio: a psychoanalytic legacy (2015), explores the significance of paintings in her life by reference to ‘random’ readings from the 24 volumes of Freud she inherited from her late father, Dr. Basil Gregory, a pioneer of group psychoanalytic therapy in 1960s London. Gill’s talk will be interwoven with readings from her books, including an account of her Russian/possibly Uzbek grandfather’s escape from Tashkent in 1904 in which fear & exhilaration, music & paintings, combine to create the ‘sound’ of her grandfather’s life.
