As part of Storming the Teacup, Downtown Pompey presents a series of creative sound workshops hosted by Boris Alleou at The Play Office. Across six sessions, you’ll explore field recording, sound walks, storytelling, editing, composition, and sonic cartography—discovering how sound can capture memory, identity, and place. Whether you’re curious about recording your first soundscape or keen to craft immersive audio stories, these hands-on workshops offer playful and accessible ways to listen differently and create with sound.
Jan 10th - Storytelling Through Sound
Sound is a powerful narrative tool. This workshop explores how to use interviews, environmental recordings, and sound design to craft immersive audio stories that bring history, identity, and emotion to life.
Jan 17th - Introduction to Sound Editing
Learn the essentials of shaping and refining recorded sounds. This session covers basic editing techniques, layering, and effects using accessible digital tools, enabling you to create clean, engaging sound pieces. Laptop/Tablet required.
Feb 20th - Sound Composition & Mixing
Dive deeper into sound creation by exploring how to blend, arrange, and mix recordings into cohesive compositions. Whether for radio, installation, or personal projects, you’ll gain insights into structuring sound for impact. Laptop/Tablet required.
Feb 28th - Sound Mapping & Sonic Cartography
Explore the concept of sound mapping—geolocating sounds to create immersive, interactive auditory experiences. Learn how to contribute to a sound map and understand how location-based audio can reshape our perception of place. Laptop/Tablet required.
