Sounding Out Helmsley!

To secure a participant's place book it here, using the green 'Tickets' button, before the 21st OCTOBER 2019.

Join us for 3 days of creative music workshops for young musicians aged 10-18, led by the Tappy Lappy Quartet!

Places are allocated on a first come first served basis.*

  • Learn new instrumental and composition techniques
  • Perform alongside Tappy Lappy in concert
  • All abilities are welcome!

Over three days this October Half Term young musicians of all abilities are invited to join the fabulous Tappy Lappy Quartet to explore the engaging songs, lively melodies and compelling harmonies of English Folk Music from Helmsley Arts Centre, all for FREE!

English folk group Tappy Lappy Quartet combines traditional with original music to create intricate and captivating arrangements. They feature the soulful melodeon playing of Dave Gray, bewitching vocals of Bryony Bainbridgeand driving guitar and fiddle playing of BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Award winners Matt Jonesand Kev Lees.

Workshops take place 10.30am - 3.30pm each day**, with a concert 7-8pm on Friday 1st November.

Places on this fantastic music residency are completely free. We ask that you pay £5 (plus eventbrite fee) when booking your place on this Eventbrite page, and this reserves one ticket to the Friday evening concert for a friend or family member. This fee is refundable if you attend the workshops but do not require a ticket to the concert.

The Sounding Out residency is delivered by NYMAZ working in partnership with the EFDSS. With funding from Arts Council England, Paul Hamlyn Foundation and Santander Foundation.

* Priority will be given to those who can attend all three days.

**On Friday 1 the workshops will run from 11.30am - 5.00pm to accomodate the start of the concert at 7pm.
