A playful workshop to create a unique piece together using voices, strings, and the natural sounds of Stanmer Park. No experience necessary!

About this event

Join us for our final Stanmer Sounds workshop: a fun and creative celebration of nature and the sound, music, and listening sessions we've been running at Stanmer throughout the year.

Sounding Stanmer is an exciting three-hour workshop bringing together voices, found / natural sounds, and stringed instruments to create a unique piece using the park and what we find in nature as inspiration.

This is a playful workshop space for curiosity and exploration - no previous experience or particular ability is needed.

The session forms part of Brighton & Hove Music for Connection's Stanmer Sounds sessions, as part of Brighton & Hove City Council's Stanmer Park Restoration Project.

What to expect

The three workshop leaders - Bethan Prosser (found / nature sounds), Bela Emerson (strings: violins, violas, cellos), Zoe Konez (singing) - will be drawing on some of the creations from the Stanmer Sounds sessions, such as poetry and artwork, to create a one-off piece for our own enjoyment, to celebrate our wonderful park.

Based on listening, we'll be in groups experimenting with the various elements to weave our piece together. This is a lighthearted workshop focused on wellbeing, creativity, and playfulness. No particular experience is required, and people can join in as much or as little as they wish.

There have been lots of changes to the park during the Restoration Project, so this is a chance to get to know the park in a new way.

Stanmer Sounds attendee: 'I really enjoyed the space to be playful with other people'.

Is this for me?

All adults and accompanied children are welcome to take part in the sessions. No music-making or particular experience is necessary, just an openness to take part and try new things.
