Event description

Description

Do you ever stop and listen to the sounds around you? What do they tell you about your local area, its people or wildlife? In the last of our Late Sessions' series for 2019 we invite guest speaker Ian Rawes to take us on a sonic journey through the many soundscapes of London.

Introducing his website The London Sound Survey - which is home to over 2,000 sounds from across the capital - Ian will show us what we can learn about our city from the noise, spoken word and music it creates every second. Its people, its traffic, its wildlife - all tell a story of London which can help us understand how things have changed over the last century and also what has stayed the same.

This final Late Sessions event is delivered by Unlocking Our Sound Heritage (UOSH), a National Lottery funded project aiming to preserve the UK’s most rare and at-risk sound recordings. Here at London Metropolitan Archives (LMA) we are proud to be one of ten regional hubs for the UOSH project, digitising and cataloguing some of the capital’s most extraordinary audio collections.
