About this event

Sounds of the Sistine Chapel (by Candlelight) 🕯️

Saturday 11th October | 5:30 PM | Tewkesbury Abbey

Join The Tallis Choral Foundation for an evocative journey through the sacred soundscape of Renaissance Rome, performed in the stunning candlelit setting of Tewkesbury Abbey.

Marking 500 years since the birth of Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina, this programme celebrates the golden age of the Sistine Chapel with music by the master himself, his contemporaries Victoria, Allegri, alongside timeless plainchant.

At the heart of the evening is Gregorio Allegri’s haunting Miserere mei, Deus - a piece once shrouded in secrecy and reserved for the Sistine Chapel alone. Its soaring soprano lines and ethereal echoes remain one of the most transcendent experiences in choral music.

Bringing together several generations of performers, this concert embodies the Tallis Choral Foundation’s mission: to share world-class music while offering performance opportunities to gifted singers.

Our recent concerts have sold out - don’t miss this extraordinary evening of choral music in one of the UK’s most atmospheric spaces.

Repertoire to include Palestrina's Missa Papae Marcelli, favourite motets (including Sicut Cervus), Allegri's spinetingling Miserere, and more!

I cannot praise you enough for your beautiful singing in Beverley - we were transported to Paradise! Your voices are remarkable and so pure. In fact ,we were moved to ( happy) tears at many points.
