Event description

Description

Tutor: Jonny Mills

Head Brewer: Noel James

Course time: 9:15am - 4:00pm

The latest trend in UK brewing has its roots in Belgian and Germanic brewing traditions. This course starts with an overview of the history and production methods of these legendary beers, then moves on to look at the innovative techniques being employed by craft brewers in the US and UK. Aimed at both professional brewers looking to move into or improve production of mixed culture beers, as well as advanced home-brewers.

Course Details:

The first section of the course looks over the traditions of European sour beer brewing. From the complex lambic and geuze of the Senne Valley, to the vinous red and lactic brown beers of west and east Flanders, across to the refreshing berliner weisse and gose of northern Germany, and the smokey grätzer of Poland.

Candidates will be taken through the techniques and recipes used to create these famed beers and how modern craft breweries are interpreting and innovating to create bold modern styles.

This course includes:

  • Morning Coffee/Tea & Pastries
  • Lunch - this will be provided by one of Bristol finest lunchtime eateries, these include Pieminister, Pinkmans and Harts Bakery. Vegetarian options available.
  • An end of day beer in New Bristol's tap bar with the Head brewer and team.

NB: Please remember this is a working brewery so wear practical clothes and shoes.
