Event description

Description

In a secular age where many feel alienated from religion, and most structures are melting, hope lies in wisdom. But where are the springs of wisdom today? Fr. Laurence exposes new and old sources of wisdom to show how to live hopefully and reconnect with the traditions on which our future depends.

An afternoon with Laurence Freeman OSB

Fr Laurence is a Benedictine monk and the spiritual guide and Director of The World Community for Christian Meditation (WCCM), an ecumenical contemplative community.

As Director of Meditatio, the outreach program of WCCM, he engages with the secular world on the themes of Education, Mental Health, Business, Addiction and Recovery, Interfaith, and the Environment.

An international speaker and retreat leader, he is the author of many books. His Sensing God: Learning to Meditate during Lent is especially recommended at this season. Through the WCCM community Fr Laurence continues the work of teaching Christian Meditation and restoring the contemplative as an essential dimension of Christian spirituality.

He is active in inter-religious dialogue with leaders of other faiths including peace initiatives, such as the historic “Way of Peace” with the Dalai Lama,

He now resides at the community’s international retreat centre, Bonnevaux, near Poitiers, France

The talk will include a period of meditation and time for questions. There will be a book stall and the event will finish by 4.15 p.m.

Registration is free. We ask for £10 donation on the day, if you can. Students welcome - no donation needed.
